Brené Brown's 10 Guideposts for Wholehearted Living are so brilliant. Her latest talk is called The Power of Vulnerability. This audible book is different than her TED Talk, it's not in printed form. This is a culmination of all of Brené Brown's decades of research. Six 1-hour sessions that will change your life. Session 5 & 6 are all about these guideposts. I've listened to this talk 3 times now in the last 7 months. I recommend a listen through, and then a second pass with paper and pen for notes because there are so many nuggets of wisdom everywhere.

Cultivate Creativity - Let Go of Comparison
Comparison is the death of happiness. Many of us have "art scars" meaning, think back to when you were a kid... did someone make fun of, judge, or belittle a creative project you created? By middle school, so many kids have told themselves they are no good at art, at singing, at writing, at creativity BECAUSE they compare themselves to others. As a full time artist, I could write a book about the art scars I have from elementary school, through college, (and beyond.) If I had listened and believed others when it came to where my talents were, I would NEVER have become an artist. That's the God's honest truth. I had a few heroes in my life that made sure I tuned those voices out on a regular basis - my mom has always been a huge force of good on this journey for me.
“Unused creativity is not benign. It metastasizes. It turns into grief, rage, judgement, sorrow, shame.” says Brené Brown. We have to find a way to create, and not care what others think. There is always someone better at everything we could do in life. That usually doesn't stop us from cooking, exercise, work, raising kids, etc. But it sure can kill our creativity.
Your creativity is about finding YOUR joy. As we stay home, this is the perfect opportunity to rediscover creativity; cultivate and ignite it in your life.
