Over 9,000 homes and 14,000 acres were lost in Southern California's Eaton fire in January 2025. Many homes, businesses and landmarks in Altadena were destroyed or severely damaged by the fire. The fire perimeter covered large parts of west Altadena and it's foothills and tree canopy.
My painting features the San Gabriel mountains and the glorious poppy fields, flora, fauna, and nature that will return to this beloved area. I was able to find a 1905 black and white photo off of a dirt road (most likely Holliston Ave in West Altadena) which featured Echo Mountain, prominently - the lower peak on the left. I wanted to capture the mountains and the fields with a newness and a sense of the restorative healing that will come in time.
In partnership with Old California Lighting, my original 16x20 gouache painting is being auctioned off to benefit the community of Altadena, CA.
