The Serenity Prayer was written by the American theologian and professor Reinhold Niebuhr (1892–1971) in the early 1930s or 1940s. Originally used in a sermon, it gained widespread fame after being adopted by Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and other twelve-step programs for its focus on acceptance, courage, and wisdom.
